Sacramento State Men's Rugby

Sacramento State will travel once again finally to get a second chance in playing Santa Clara. Last time these two teams met it was not the turn out Sacramento was hoping for losing to Santa Clara in the final minutes. After coming out with a huge defeat against Stanford. Sac st. has been waiting for 3 weeks to play Santa Clara and show what nor cal rugby is about. Not only are both teams tied record wise, but this final game in Santa Clara is a league champions final and will send only one team to a sweet 16 birth for Div I national championship shot.

Sacramento State returns back home with yet again another victory against Chico. Chico scored 14 points after the first 10 minutes of the game. With Sacramento on its heels, The hornets rallied and tied the game 14-14. Then Sacramento took the lead by 1 point separating the two teams. Untill the Sac St. Forwards powered a series of crashes and scored the final try that sealed the lead and the game for Sacramento State. (45-38)

Sacramento couldn’t find a rhythm to get it together in order to defeat Santa Clara. The Hornets could not capitalize early in the game to put them in the lead. Sacramento could not recovery fast enough from their mistakes causing Santa Clara to Burst on open balls and get to open field which lead to opposition tries. Sacramento fell to Santa Clara 26-37

The Hornets host The Santa Clara Broncos this afternoon behind Yosemite Hall on the grass fields by the soccer field. Sacramento hopes to once again keep the momentum rolling and seal their place 1st in league. (A-side) 1pm (B-Side) 3pm.

Sacramento wins against Stanford 23-22. The Hornets  played hard all 80 minutes while some of the players were dealing with injures. Sacramento showed great heart and skill against the Cardinals. Sacramento Flanker: Stephan Zimmerman jumped on the ball in the try zone after Sacramento’s Forward’s scrum obstructed the place in which caused the ball to pop out of the back and Scrum Half: Chris Turner caused a fumble for the Flanker to jump on the ball. After this week Hornets plan on improving on the weakness that showed in the game, take care of previous wounds, and also prepare for Santa Clara this Saturday. Which the Hornets will be hosting.

Sacramento State (1-0) travels this weekend down south to play Stanford University(0-1) in Palo Alto. The Hornets are headed into the Second week of league play against the Cardinals. The Hornets have been working hard all week and trying to keep momentum on their side after clinching a close win against Chico State. Sacramento hopes to continue the ball rolling and come out with another win over Stanford. Game Starts @3pm (A-side) 5pm (B-side).
